WILL ONE OF YOUR PUPPIES DO WELL AT THE DOG PARK OR DAYCARE?
The breed in general is not suited for dog parks or daycares. There are always exceptions, but if this is something you really want to do with your dog, we suggest you look into a different breed.
WHAT IF I WANT TWO?
We will never sell two puppies together.
WHAT IF I WANT A SPECIFIC COLOUR?
DO I NEED REGISTRATION PAPERS?
We know what colours will be produced in a litter. You may request a preference, but if the best suited dog for you is not the colour you want we will not substitute the colour you want over the dog you should have.
Yes, if you are buying a purebred dog then you need registration papers. It is also required by the Canadian Kennel Club that you are provided with registration papers.
DO I HAVE TO DO SCHUTZHUND WITH A PUPPY I BUY FROM YOU?
DO YOU BREED LONG COATED DOGS?
No, there is no long coat gene in the dogs we are currently breeding.
Of course not. Schutzhund (IPO) is a breedworthiness test (and a sport) - we do it to prove our dogs are breed worthy, you are not obligated to do any sport with your dog.
DO YOU CHARGE MORE FOR MALES?
We charge the same amount for every puppy in a litter. What we will charge more for is keeping a puppy beyond the first 8 weeks and training.
ARE YOUR DOGS GUARANTEED AGAINST HIP DYSPLASIA?
DO YOU BREED RARE COLOURS?
There is no such thing as rare colours in the GSD breed. We do not breed for faulted colours such as liver, white or blue.
We highly suggest that colour is not a priority for you.
No - we cannot guarantee that your puppy will never develop Hip or Elbow dysplasia. No breeder can guarantee that.
WHY ARE YOUR PUPPIES SO EXPENSIVE?
Our dogs are priced according to market standards.
I'VE LOOKED AT OTHER BREEDERS, WHY IS VTH BETTER?
DO YOU OFFER DISCOUNTS?
We aren't better. There are many breeders who do what we do. But, there are more that don't. Read carefully, compare and educate yourself about this wonderful breed before you buy.
All our puppies are the same price but we will discount puppies to repeat buyers who have titled their dogs from us.
CAN I PICK MY PUPPY?
No. We know more about dogs than you do so we will pick the pup in the litter that is best suited to what you are looking for.
BUT I REALLY WANT TO PICK MY PUPPY!
YOU DON'T HAVE ANY PUPPIES WHERE CAN I GET ONE?
We will help you find a reputable breeder. Please email or call us with your requirements and we will do our best to put you in touch with a breeder who can help.
Sorry. It is more important that you get the right dog.
CAN I TAKE A PUPPY HOME ON A
HOW MUCH DEPOSIT DO YOU REQUIRE?
Absolutely...NOT. If you are not sure you are ready for a puppy - you aren't ready.
WILL YOU SHIP A PUPPY?
WHEN DO YOU TAKE DEPOSITS?
Yes, we will ship puppies
DO YOUR DOGS HAVE STRAIGHT BACKS?
Straight backs and old fashioned are buzzwords that bad breeders use to sell their dogs to people who haven't researched the breed.
We only take deposits after a litter is born.
IF I GIVE YOU A DEPOSIT, AM I GETTING A PUPPY?
No. We reserve the right to change our mind at any time.
WHAT BREEDERS DO YOU RECOMMEND?
DO YOU HAVE A WAITING LIST?
It really depends on what your standards are. We have very high breeding standards and will not recommend a breeder who does not do what we do. Contact us for more information.
WHAT IF I WANT TO BREED MY PUPPY?
Because we will not take deposits until a litter is on the ground, we do not have a waiting list. We do have a list of people we keep updated on our breeding plans. If you would like to be on that list, fill our our puppy questionnaire.
Our puppies are sold on non-breeding contracts (CKC). We will be happy to lift the conditions if you title your dog in IPO/HGH and certify both hips and elbows.
CAN I WATCH YOUR DOGS TRAIN?
Absolutely, contact us to make arrangements.
DO I HAVE TO SPAY/NEUTER MY PUPPY?
No - that is completely up to you.
WHAT IF SOMEDAY I CAN'T TAKE CARE OF MY DOG ANYMORE?
We will - for the life of the dog you purchase from us.
CAN I COME AND MEET YOUR DOGS?
Absolutely, contact us to make arrangements. We prefer to limit meetings to people who are seriously interested in purchasing a puppy. If we have no puppies (or none on the way) please don't waste your time if you aren't planning to wait.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR IN A HOME?
We are looking for homes that have some experience with the breed or similar working breeds. Homes that will take the time for an active dog that will need training and exercise. The fact that you jog or hike does not influence our decision - it will be a long time before a puppy would be ready for that sort of daily exercise and we are more concerned with how you will make time for the dog rather than how the dog will fit in with what you already do.
We are also looking for homes that will prove our breedings with dogs competing in Schutzhund (IPO), CKC competitive obedience etc... We choose puppies based on what we think their abilities will be and want higher drive pups in working homes.
WHAT AGE CAN I TAKE MY PUPPY HOME?
WILL MY DOG PROTECT ME?
Maybe. Maybe not. If you are looking to buy a dog to use as a personal protection dog, or if you think your dog will fight off home invaders - this is not what we are breeding for. Most people want a dog to live in their home as a companion and then have an unrealistic idea that this same dog will know the difference between friend or foe. We believe that our dogs are more important than our televisions & smart phones and we will protect them, not vice versa.
Don't worry, your dog will bark when someone knocks at the door.
YOUR DOGS HAVE A LOT OF FANCY TITLES -
IS THAT IMPORTANT?
Our dogs are titled to ensure we are breeding true to the breed. If you just want a dog that "looks" like a German Shepherd Dog, find a rescue dog in need of a home. If you want a real German Shepherd Dog, you want a breeder that tests their dogs in a breed specific area.
DO YOU DONATE PUPPIES?
Each situation is different, but yes, we would consider donating a pup to be used in Law Enforcement or as a Guide Dog.
DO YOUR DOGS GET ALONG WITH OTHER DOGS?
Our dogs are not dog aggressive but we do not go out of our way to introduce or interact with dogs outside our pack as it is not important to us. If you are looking for a dog that will have to get on with strange dogs, the GSD may not be the right breed for you.
We like puppies to go to their new homes between 7-8 weeks (closer to 8). We can keep your puppy longer (for an additional charge) if needed, but we will not let any puppy leave earlier.
WHY AREN'T YOUR DOGS OFA'D?
WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING FOR MY PUPPY BEFORE IT COMES HOME?
We start our puppies on crate training - potty training and of course socializing before puppies go to their new homes.
Our breeding dogs have their hips & elbows certified by the SV of Germany. We believe this is better for the breed and better for our breeding program.
WHAT COMES WITH MY PUPPY?
Every puppy is vet checked, microchipped and has had their first vaccination (Parvo & Distemper).
